The 5 Spiritual Books That Guided Me On My Awakening Journey

There are certain books that find you exactly when you're ready for them.

Looking back on my own awakening journey, I can see that each of these books arrived at the perfect time. It's as though they were gently placed in my path, each one answering questions I hadn't even found the words to ask yet.

Before this chapter of my life, I was never much of a non-fiction reader. I always gravitated towards stories rather than educational books. But something shifted as I began exploring spirituality. Instead of feeling like I had to learn, I found myself genuinely hungry for knowledge. Every new book opened another door, leading me deeper into understanding myself, the world around me and the many ways we can connect with something greater than ourselves.

For me, this journey wasn't about rejecting everything I'd grown up believing. It was about moving beyond the fear-based beliefs that had shaped much of my understanding of spirituality and discovering a path built on love, curiosity, healing and personal experience.

I spend a lot of time in the car, so audiobooks quickly became my favourite way to learn. Suddenly, long drives felt like opportunities rather than wasted time. I would arrive at my destination inspired, reflecting on everything I'd just heard. Today, these books proudly sit on my bookshelf, well-loved and often revisited whenever I need guidance, a reminder, or a fresh perspective.

If you're at the beginning of your own spiritual journey, these are the five books that captured my heart.

4. Spiritual Activator -Oliver Nino

This book arrived at exactly the right point in my journey. It was the first time I'd ever heard about the energetic body and the chakra system. I knew I had emotional blocks, I could feel them but I didn't understand where they were stored or how they were affecting my life.

Oliver introduced me to the practice of chakra clearing, energetic protection and cord cutting. He also opened my eyes to the different spiritual gifts we all have and explained how to begin activating and strengthening our clairs, such as clairvoyance, claircognizance, clairsentience and clairaudience.

It was the first time I realised these weren't gifts reserved for a select few, but intuitive abilities that anyone can nurture with practice and intention.

This book completely changed the way I viewed my wellbeing. I realised that caring for our energy is just as important as caring for our physical body.

Today, chakra clearing has become part of my daily spiritual hygiene. Every morning and every night I take the time to clear my chakras, strengthen my energetic boundaries and release any cords or energies that aren't mine to carry. It's a practice that has helped me feel more grounded, centred and connected to myself.

Looking back, this book wasn't just something I read, it became the foundation for many of the spiritual practices I now use every single day.

1. Secrets of Aboriginal Healing: A Physicist's Journey with a Remote Australian Tribe - Gary Holz

I first discovered this book after hearing Gary's wife, Robbie Holz, speak on a podcast. The way she spoke about their experiences was so captivating that I knew I had to read it.

I wasn't disappointed.

This book completely expanded my understanding of what healing could be. It challenged many of the beliefs I'd grown up with and opened my eyes to the incredible healing possibilities that exist beyond what many of us are taught. Gary shares his journey with humility and curiosity, making the story both fascinating and deeply thought-provoking.

After finishing it, I couldn't stop there. I went on to read Robbie Holz's follow-up book, and wow... it was an emotional rollercoaster. Her story moved me to tears and gave me an even deeper appreciation for resilience, faith and the extraordinary ways healing can unfold.

This was one of the first books that made me realise there is so much more to this world than we can always explain and that became the beginning of asking bigger questions.

3. Mary Magdalene Revealed - Meggan Watterson

This book absolutely blew my mind.

Like many people, I'd grown up believing Mary Magdalene was a prostitute.

Reading Meggan Watterson's perspective challenged everything I thought I knew. As I explored the book, I felt a mixture of surprise, curiosity and, if I'm honest, anger. It made me question how the sacred feminine has been portrayed throughout history and why so many feminine voices and teachings have been overlooked or diminished.

This book opened me to the Way of the Magdalene - a path of living from the heart, honouring intuition, embodying compassion and remembering the sacred feminine within.

It introduced me to a completely different understanding of Mary Magdalene and invited me to explore her teachings through a new lens.

I also absolutely loved listening to Meggan narrate the audiobook herself. Her voice is warm, expressive and so animated that it felt like she was sitting beside me, sharing her wisdom.

More than anything, this book drew me closer to the Divine Feminine, the Great Mother and the goddess within. It awakened something deep inside me and encouraged me to trust my own intuition rather than looking outside myself for all the answers.

This wasn't just a book about Mary Magdalene, it became an invitation to rediscover a part of myself that had been quietly waiting to be remembered. It taught me that spirituality can be rooted in love, softness, presence and deep inner wisdom, and it remains one of the most transformative books I've read on my awakening journey.

5. Jesus and the Essenes - Dolores Cannon

This book deeply resonated with me and completely transformed the way I viewed Jesus aka Yeshua. More than anything, it healed my relationship with him.

Growing up, my understanding of Jesus was shaped largely through religion which felt twisted and distorted. This book invited me to reconnect with Yeshua through his teachings of love, compassion and service. It also introduced me to the Essene community and offered a perspective on the environment in which he was raised and spiritually nurtured.

One of the biggest insights I took from this book was realising that even Yeshua wasn't alone in his mission. He had a community around him, people who supported, guided, walked alongside him and helped him complete his mission. That reminder was incredibly comforting. It showed me that even those called to do extraordinary things often do so with the support of others, rather than carrying the weight of the world alone.

This book sparked a deep curiosity about Dolores Cannon's work, and I soon found myself reading and listening to many of her other books based on her past life regression research. I found her work encouraged me to stay open-minded, take what resonated with my heart, and continue expanding my understanding of the universe, the soul's journey and our greater purpose.

For me, this book was about reconnecting with the essence of Yeshua's message of love and allowing that to become the foundation of my own spiritual path.

2. Anna, Grandmother of Jesus - Claire Heartsong

If Jesus and the Essenes opened the door, this book took me even deeper.

It offered a completely different perspective on the life of Yeshua and those closest to him. Rather than focusing solely on his public ministry, it felt like I was being invited behind the scenes into the family, the relationships and the wisdom that shaped his life.

What surprised me most was how deeply I connected with Anna. There was something so nurturing, wise and comforting about her that I found myself feeling as though she were my very own grandmother. Her teachings are filled with love, compassion and gentle guidance, and I often found myself pausing just to sit with what I'd heard.

If you decide to read this book, my advice is to read it with an open heart.

Allow yourself to experience it rather than analyse it. And once you've finished... brace yourself for the sequel. It takes the journey even further and is one I won't forget anytime soon.

As I continue walking this path, I know the learning is far from over. Every book, every teacher and every experience has become another stepping stone, gently guiding me further along my journey of healing, remembrance and spiritual awakening. I'm grateful for each one, because they all arrived exactly when I was ready for them.

I'd love to hear about the books that changed everything for you. Which book opened your heart, shifted your perspective or became a turning point on your own journey?
